Let's Talk Babies!

development

Our sweet baby Nora. Our third and last baby is already 10 months old. Time is going by so incredibly fast. It seriously feels like I was just in the hospital having her and yet here we are just a couple of months away from her first birthday.

Weight: ~ 17.5lbs (about the 25th percentile)

Height: ~ 29ins (about the 50th percentile)

Nora is seriously the happiest baby. People are always amazed how content and smiley she is. She very rarely cries, and never for no reason. She wakes up happy, chatting to herself in her crib. When I put her down for a nap she never cries, she just babbles away until she falls asleep. Her personality is so relaxed and sweet.

This month has seen more leaps and bounds in the development department. She is a super speedy crawler and is all over the place chasing her sisters or the kitty. This past week she master climbing the stairs. She hasn’t figured out how to get back down but she can climb up the stairs at warp speed. She loves exploring both indoors and out. While we were on vacation last week we found ourselves at the beach (a rocky, pacific northwest beach) and she crawled all over the rocks and climbed around on the driftwood.

Although she is curious and adventurous and a mover, she is also incredibly sweet and loves to snuggle. In the midst of her play she will randomly crawl over to me for a snuggle or to give me a kiss. She adores her sisters and loves to watch them play and tries to play with them. I love watching them all play together.

Thanks a tooth explosion in the last couple of teeth Nora now has 5 little teeth and I’m pretty sure she is working on a couple of more as we speak. Those new little teeth are helping her advance her foodie status. The girl loves to eat. She loves to feed herself so she is pretty much completely off purees and is eating all finger foods. She loves fruit of any kind, cheese, bread, yogurt, waffles and pancakes, corn on the cob is a huge favorite, she’s tried ham and turkey and likes most vegetables she has tried. I’m still breastfeeding and that is going really well. This third go around with nursing has been so easy. I haven’t run into any challenges, which has been nice.

Nora is such a joy. She embodies happiness and you can’t help but smile when around her. We love her to pieces.

Our incredibly adorable Miss Nora is 9 months old!! It has been three quarters of a year since she joined our crazy little family. I can hardly believe it, time is whizzing by.

Weight: 17lbs 1oz (31st percentile)

Height: 27.5 inches (45th percentile)

Head Circumference: 17.5 inches (70th percentile)

Nora had her 9 month well baby check up with Dr. H yesterday. She will given the seal of “Perfect”, not that there was ever any doubt 😉 She is growing well. Rocking the somewhere in between peanut and average size range. She demonstrated several of her recently acquired skills including waving at the doc when she came in the room and clapping and cheering when found out it was a shot free appointment :) The doctor was very impressed with her development and was not at all surprised she was already pulling up on furniture and trying to cruise. Her predicted that Nora would be an early walker, we shall see.

As I mentioned last week she has recently had a milestone explosion. Learning to crawl, sit up, pull up, walking on her knees while holding onto something, clapping and waving all mastered in a couple of weeks. She is all over the place and super fast. She can hands and knees crawl but prefers her own little version of the army crawl to get around, she is so, so fast. She spends most of the day pulling up on things and trying to figure out how to use that as a means to get around. It will not be long now and she’ll be cruising. She is already stretching out to reach close by objects and trying to figure out if she can go from one thing to the next without having to sit down and crawl. Once she figures that out there will be no keeping up with her! She is one determined little girl.

As much as she loves to explore and play she is also super cuddly. She loves giving me hugs and kisses. Every so often, in the middle of her play, she’ll crawl up to me and climb into my lap for a snuggle. I love it!

She is the sweetest, happiest baby. The big girls adore her and play so well with her. She recently graduated to having a bath in the big tub and Anna and Maya fight over who gets to have a bath with her! And Nora adores her sisters every bit as much as they adore her. She watches them and loves to join them in their play. It is so wonderful to watch them all interact. Melts my heart every time.

We love you to pieces baby girl!

This past weekend Nora celebrated her half birthday. Our sweet baby girl is 6 months old!!

Weight: 15lbs 6oz (33rd percentile)

Height: 26.5 in (71st percentile)

Head Circumference: 16.75 (56th percentile)

Nora is such a joy, I don’t even know where to begin to describe her. She is just simply full of joy and curiosity. She smiles easily, giggles at all the crazy antics constantly going on around her and spends much of her play time trying to figure out how to get her little body moving so she can keep up with her sisters. You can’t help but smile when you around her. She is so stinkin’ adorable it just melts my heart.

Her development had gone into hyper drive lately. She is rolling all over the place and has figured out she can get to things across the room by rolling to them. She is pushing up on her hands and knees and has begun rocking. She is so close to crawling it is scary. She is sitting up pretty well and can sit unassisted for short periods now. With two big sisters to keep up with it really isn’t a surprise she is trying so hard to become mobile.

We introduced solids recently and she is really enjoying trying new things. The cereal went over pretty well and she actually seems to enjoy it now! She has tried peas and sweet potatoes so far and seemed to really like both. I love her facial expressions when she tries a new food. The look of “What on earth did you just put in my month?” is priceless :) She already seems to be working on her pincer grasp so fingers foods probably aren’t too far off.

She had her 6 month check up today and got a the seal of “Perfect” from her doctor. We already knew she was perfect, but it is always nice to hear it from the professionals 😉 Her development is either on track or ahead in every respect and she is growing well. So much changes during this time in babyhood. They grow and develop before our eyes. This is one of my favorite ages and I can’t wait to see what comes next for Nora.

We just love her to pieces and our family truly does feel whole now that she is here.

Anna’s favorite activities are those that require quiet concentration. From birth her personality has been that of quiet observer. As I watch her take in the world I can almost see the sponge within her absorbing and expanding. She is happiest reading books, coloring or building with her duplo blocks. She will concentrate for great lengths of time on these activities, taking pride in her work and gladly showing off what she has created with a very proclamation of “Look!!” as she holds up her creation for all to see.

So, yesterday, since Maya had the day off school and I was trying to come up with an extra fun activity for us to do I decided to let both girls paint. Painting has always been one of Maya’s favorite things to do, but, up until now I had not let Anna in on the fun. I taped together several pages from the big coloring pad Anna got for Christmas and I let her have at it (knowing a great mess was likely).

From the first stroke Anna was in heaven!

The look on her face was priceless. She was so proud of herself :)

Part way into our painting project she realized that Maya’s pictures were much more colorful than hers and started to ask for more colors. She asked for “boo” and “low” (blue and yellow). Eventually her little paint tray was filled with every color of the rainbow and she was delighted!

I’d say painting is likely going to be a new favorite activity for my budding little Picasso :) It won’t be long now before crayons no longer cut it and she is asking for paints whenever the creativity bug bits.

Anna sure comes by this love of colorful creation honestly, her big sister is quite the little artist herself.

Our sweet girl is 18 months!

Weight: 21lbs (15th percentile)

Height: 30.5 in (20th percentile)

Head Circumference: 18.5 in (70th percentile)

She had her 18 month well-child check up with her pediatrician this morning and Dr. H confirmed what we already know about our girl…she is perfectly awesome :) As you can see from her stats above she is still rocking her tiny peanut status. I expected the numbers to confirm that she is still my bitty little girl since at 18 months she still wearing mostly 9 month and 12 month sized clothing. I put an 18 month shirt on her the other day and she was swimming in it. It is kind of nice because I’m getting a ton of wear out of her clothing.

Developmentally, Anna is doing great. Dr. H was very impressed with the incredible strides Anna has made since her 15 month check with respect to walking. She is doing very well with her gross motor skills and is off the charts when it comes to her fine motor skills and her verbal development. Her vocabulary is huge for her age. Our girl is, in the words of Dr. H, “perfectly awesome”.

Anna’s current favorite activities including reading, coloring and playing with her big sister. Her concentration is crazy good for her age. She’ll sit by the book shelf and read books forever. When she is coloring she concentrates very carefully and gets right into. She loves to show off her drawings with a very proud “look” when she is done. Maya and Anna play well together most of the time, which is so nice because Anna really does adore her big sister and loves playing with her.

This is one of my favorite ages. There is so much learning and exploring and growing going on inside their little minds at this age. I love watching it happen. I love watching her explore the world and see what she takes away from it. Every day she wakes up a little bit different than the girl she was the day before. It is wonderful to part of her growth. Love you to pieces sweet Anna B.
