Let's Talk Babies!

big girl

Maya has been asking for a big girl 2-wheel bike for ages now. Our plan was to get her one this summer and then we decided to move to Seattle so it was put on hold for a bit. We told her she could get one once we got here and settled in. Well a couple of weeks ago her wishes for a new bike finally came true and the beloved UPS driver delivered a big box just for Maya. She was so, so excited.

I had to make a tool run and a bike helmet run so she could ride it right away as the bike got here before all our stuff arrived from St. Louis. Lorne managed to get the bike put together with the “help” of two little girls and lots of princesses :)

Maya has been loving her new bike and riding it all over the parking lot of our apartment complex and on the trails that run through our community. She is still pretty cautious but getting better every time she rides it. I’m sure before we know it, it’ll be time to remove those training wheels.

Anna is a bit envious of her sister’s new wheels ;)

The other day I was looking at Maya and marveling at how grown up she looks these days. She is rapidly approaching 4 1/2 and is looking every bit a little girl these days. In years gone by when I looked at my growing up too fast big girl I could still glimpse the baby she once was. These days she is all big girl. Her cheeks are no longer round with baby chub, her legs go on forever and ever, her movements so precise, her vocabulary unbelievable.

I was looking back at old pictures today trying to find a shot of Maya in a shirt that Anna is now wearing. I ended up spending a good hour looking through pictures of her as a baby and a toddler.

It blows my mind to see the transformation that has taken place in just 4 short years.

It’s funny how every once in a while I go through this moment of “where does the time go?” “how is my first baby already a big girl.” It’s like the moment you have kids time goes into fast forward.

For Christmas Maya got all new Princess bedding for the big girl bed we had ordered for her.  Since the new baby will need the crib she is now using as a toddler bed we decided to get her moved into a twin bed now so she doesn’t feel like the baby is taking her bed (gotta avoid jealousy were you can!).  She was so excited about her new bedding it was hard to make her wait to use it until the new bed arrived.

You should have seen her face when the bed was finally all set up and the new princess bedding in place, pure joy.  She wanted to hop right in bed.

I don’t think I’ve ever thought she was so big and so little at the same time more than I did when I saw her laying in her new bed.  She looked so tiny in that big bed and yet seemed like such a big girl.  It reminded me of the first time she slept in her crib. She seemed so tiny for that big old thing and now here she is big enough to sleep in a twin bed.

She loves her new bed, especially since it is all decked out with princess sheets, a princess comforter and princess pillows.

When I peek in on her at night before I go to bed and see her all snuggled under her covers taking up next to no room in that big bed I wonder how I can slow time down and keep her from getting too big, too fast.

On Sunday Maya’s celebrated her 3rd birthday in high princess style.

I spent the afternoon Sunday turning my living room and dining room into a princess obsessed 3 year old’s paradise.  No spot was safe.  There were literally princesses hanging from the ceiling.

The only thing missing when I was done decorating were the party guests and the little birthday princess.  At 4pm our friends starting arriving and the princess party was in full swing.  The little birthday princess had a wonderful time celebrating with all her friends.  We made magic wands and popped bubbles with them.  We ate pizza and perfect princess cupcakes.  The night ended with one spoiled little princess wearing the biggest grin on her face.

Happy Birthday Girl

A great big thank you to all our friends who came over and helped us celebrate.  The party wouldn’t have been complete without all of you there.  A special thanks to Heather for her handy camera work some of which can be seen above.

I still can’t believe Maya is already 3 years old.  Time is flying by.

3 years ago today you made me a mommy.  You came into this world a screaming, healthy, beautiful bundle of baby and made me the happiest person in the world.

Newborn Maya and Mommy

I’ve loved every one of the 1,577,847 minutes you have been with us.

It is hard to believe that you are already 3 years old, no longer my little baby.  The other day Daddy called you his little baby and you quickly corrected him and said “I not a baby, I a big girl” You are a big girl; a smart, sweet, energetic, loveable big girl.  I love you to pieces.
