The kids are home from school and it is raining outside, what can you do to make this a fun day for all of you anyway. Rainy days, particularly when the weather has been nice outside, can be difficult for kids. They tend to get bored and want to be entertained. Here are a few rainy day activities to help fill the day and make it fun for all.
- Take your children to a museum or science center if you have one in your area. Even if your kids aren’t old enough to necessarily get much out of it they can be a great place for an indoor walk for mom and gives the kids something different to look at.
- Write a story together. Have the kids draw some pictures and together you can write a story. Put the book together and give it to dad (or mom) when he gets home from work.
- Make “Just Wanted to Say Hi” cards for grandparents or special family friends. Break out the umbrellas and walk them to the mailbox in the rain.
- Bake cookies. Kids love to help bake, give them something they are in charge of like stirring the ingredients or putting the chocolate chips into the bowl, etc.
- Play board games. Let each kid pick a game they want to play and spend the day playing each child’s game.
- Put a scrapbook together. Let each child be in charge of their own scrapbook page. Let them choose the theme and the photos.
- Go to the library and pick out some great books to read together when you get home. Your local library may have some activities going on as well so call ahead to find out.
- Let each child come up with something they really want to do. Spend some time doing each child’s activity.
- Put on your raincoats and rubber boots and play outside in the rain for a few minutes. What kid (or adult for that matter) doesn’t love to play in puddles!
These are just a few ideas of things you can do to make a rainy day fun. What tricks do you have up your sleeve to help make those rainy days fun for your kids? What do you find your kids enjoy most?
